This belief serves as the foundation for the recording of The Journey, the debut project from recording artist and musician Jelando Johnson.  A graduate of Texas Southern University, he spent years as a member of the

award- winning TSU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Howard Harris. It was there and many other venues where he developed styles in jazz, rhythm & blues, latin, country and gospel music.

Those skills have led to Jelando laying down grooves with such artists as George Duke, Marion Meadows, Kim Waters, Bobby Lyle, Steve Cole, Melba Moore, Hubert Laws, Peter White, Kirk Whalum, Bob James, Jonathan Butler, Najee, Bob Baldwin, Patrice Rushen, Michael Henderson, Cherelle, Gail Jhonson (musical director for Norman Brown), Karen Briggs, Ronnie Laws, Eric Darius, Tom Braxton, and many others.

He also shares the stage with some of Houston’s top performers such as Kyle Turner, Michael Ward, Althea Rene, Horace Alexander-Young, and the Da Camera Performing Arts Series, just to name a few.

Jelando has shared his talents through many recordings, musical productions and concerts across the nation and around the world. He’s also performed at numerous festivals including:

-The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz (Johannesburg, South Africa)

-Naniki Carribean Jazz Safari (Bridgetown, Barbados)

-New Orleans Jazz and Herritage Festival (New Orleans, LA)

-Texas Jazz Festival (Corpus Christi, TX)

-Houston International Festival (Houston, TX)

-Steel City Jazz Festival (Birmingham, AL)

Not settling for complacency, Jelando is involved in educating the young and the young at heart through private teaching sessions and public presentations through group performances.

In the summer of 2012, Jelando's debut single WINGS OF AN EAGLE was released through his company, LANDO Enterprises, LLC. In December of 2014, his second single THIS TIME IT’S REAL was released. All of his music is currently available at and on all online record stores including CD Baby, Apple Music, Amazon, and Google Play. His music can also be heard on KTSU 90.9 FM, KPVU 91.3 FM on the TuneIn radio app and Jango Internet Radio.

Through his music, listeners can look forward to a musical journey that will lift their spirits while the groove captures their souls. It's what Jelando lives for: making music that makes a difference in the lives of every listener.  "For me, it's not about playing an instrument, but BEING an instrument, used by God to bring joy and encouragement through this powerful median called music."
